On the contrary, it has been suggested that Zhouyi is a compendium of divination practices。The term “Zhou” in Zhouyi refers to the Zhou Dynasty in ancient China， while “Yi” represents the harmonious combination of sun and moon。 It is widely accepted that Fuxi，also known as 伏羲 in Chinese, devised eight Gua diagrams called 八卦。These eight Gua diagrams were paired together to form a total of sixty-four diagrams，which eventually evolved into the Zhouyi we know today。Fuxi lived prior to the Xia Dynasty around 2146 BC, whereas Zhouyi was written between 1029 and 476 BC，its original purpose as a historical record gradually transformed into one focused on divination。
